Mini Mission Trips

Mini Mission Trips
Have you found your mission?

"For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." Ephesians 2:10 ESV

We are created for good works. Have you found what God has prepared for you? That may be hard to do. We're all so busy. We have our day jobs. We raise families. Maybe we find ourselves stepping into homeschooling, as well.

Then, there are those super Christians. We look at our fellow believers who seem to be helping others all the time. They accomplish great charitable works while running their own lives with precision. They are strong, capable, and focused, while the rest of us are left scrambling to find something to offer. What's their secret?

I have no answer to that. I'm not a super Christian. But I think it is possible God puts little missions in front of us every day. Good works, prepared for us in advance. I wonder how many I have missed.

A friend recently confided in me that she felt lost. She needed to know her purpose. What did God plan for her? She was a recent widow and now found herself in an empty house with no one to take care of, feeling quite useless. She prayed often that God would show her his purpose for her life, but so far, no mission had presented itself.

I watched her relate to others. As she chatted with friends, acquaintances, and store clerks. My friend always had a smile and kind words for everyone. She often made people laugh with her anecdotes. I realized, and shared with her, that she was already fulfilling God's current purpose for her. A more spectacular mission may present itself in the future, but she was making many people happy along the way.

God puts miniature mission trips in front of us every day. As with my friend, it may be as simple as a kind word for a casual acquaintance - a word that may be just the tonic needed at that moment. It may be a smile for a stranger - a smile that may be the only one he receives that day.

You may not have found your grand mission in life, but you can make it your goal to brighten someone's day.

And whatever you do, do it for the Lord. (Colossians 3:23) It's your mission, your purpose in life.
